Alright so I'm running late. It's Monday. Of course I'm running late. I don't know how, I woke up on time. Oh wait go back and read the Monday part. It's Monday! The girls and I are heading to my Mom's for a fun day with a sister an aunt and her grand kiddos. I walk out the door with out the casserole, turn around go back and get it. Drive down the road and turn around an come back home. I forgot something. Get back in the car and head down the road. Silently cursing myself for being late. I don't like to be late. Kinda drives me batty on all sides of it! Anyways! I stop at the post office and hurriedly get out of the car and walk briskly to the door. I keep going as I grab the handle and WhAm! It doesn't open and I hit the door. Well I guess they are closed. Oh right it's Monday. A holiday. Head down I quickly get in the can to leave. And yes there was another person in the parking lot...and yes I'm sure they saw me. OH the joy of small town living...
I also had to get gas. GAHHHHHHHH. Stupid gas. I put the gas in the car and hurry up the steps...and trip going up them. Thankfully the 5 people standing by the door are more interested in the coffee they are arguing over to notice me. I pay and head out to Mom's. Thankful for no more doors eerrr stops and iced coffee waiting for me!! Yay!
Had a great day oh and some amazing brownies! Oh I will be sharing that, and ya get some fat pants! OK. Sorry. But amazing! hahaha!! So check back in and I'll share, but I may have to tease and say they only have 4 cups of chocolate in them...
Have a great night all!!
Laugh everyday...even if it's at yourself! Ah my life!

monday confessions
Because Mondays are never my finest days, and I haven't done a Monday confession in while...I thought I'd share a drowned rat...
Oh wait that's me! hahaha (Not my finest pic, but I'm being honest!)
So it rained a little (insert lots of sarcasm here) yesterday while I was doing evening chores. I was soaked and wanted to show my husband how wet I got. Oh and it stopped raining when I was all done with the chores. Fantastic! He and the kiddos went out for the afternoon for personal reasons, in support of his family. I stayed home to do chores because they wouldn't be home in time.
But it worked out for me! I got a last minute invite out with my sisters!! We do that a lot, last minute stuff. We went out to eat and then did some shopping. I got three new sweaters, well new to me. We went to Goodwill and other stores!! Awesome sweaters too! It's that time of year here. We had lots of fun and lots of laughs at each other. All in good fun. I love being with my sisters and just being silly with them. The relationship I have with them helps keep me sane.
Happy Monday all! Keep it real!

monday confessions
I'm not a big fan of PBJ's. Nope not at all. I'll eat them, but I'd rather not.
I have days I'd rather stay in the house and not go out and do the chores. Like today...
If you look really closely you can see that it is POURING outside today. I zoomed it in.This is part of my driveway. It's a little pool. My kiddos wanna go swimming in the driveway! We do need this rain, really badly, it's so dry here. I can't wait to see how the rain and then the heat later in the week will improve the grass and the tree buds!!! They will surely come out!!!!
This is what happens when I collect the eggs and don't have the basket. It's one of the kiddos jobs, but they "forgot". In the shirt they go. At least they were fairly clean.
I don't always remember to make laundry soap in time and it has to sit for 24 hours before you use it, and the monster of laundry gets bigger. Then you miss out on perfect, free solar power to dry your clothes and have to use the dryer, because it's raining. Ugh. I've been making my own laundry soap for probably a year now. Most people who know me don't know that. I'm not one for sharing, unless it's on this blog, and even then it's thought over and rewritten to share only what I want. Kinda like pictures. I love the edit button. Which I need to download on this computer to do a better job of editing my pics!! Some things are better left unsaid!! Besides who wants to see all my dirty dishes?!!
I've been asked how do you DO all that you do? I smile, and think to myself, I don't know. It's my life, I just live my life.
Not many people that I know do what I do, and that's fine. Each to their own. Maybe that's why I get asked. Maybe it seems like a lot to them, and to me it's just another day in the life of me. It didn't happen overnight. Thankfully! I guess you could say I'm determined. I love a challenge. Farming has it's share of challenges;-) Working with my kiddos and husband present problems of there own, but we do it together and learn. It's us. The dance of life and farm life together. I just take it one day at a time, and with the grace of the Lord I get done what I can!
Well that's enough sharing for one rainy Monday! Have a good one!!

monday confessions
Friday I had to go to town. That was my first mistake. I hate going to town on Fridays. Everyone comes out of the wood work. And it was super bowl weekend. I think that must be a national holiday or something...And it was in the late afternoon! What was I thinking? Apparently I was not. I only had to get a few things and had 2 kiddos with me. They like to shop. One of them had a gift card to spend and she bought a Onesie and a stuffed animal for her baby. So cute. The girls love their babies and the baby clothes. Well I did the rest of my shopping at warp speed just to get out of the insanely busy store. The girls were laughing and telling me I was taking them crazy all over the store. There were not enough lines opened and they were all backed way up. I picked one lane and stood there and chatted with the girls. I am always aware of where I am and my kiddos are in relationship to me. I mean hello! How can you not be! I'm like a mama bear. Don't come too close or you might get bit. Seriously. As we are standing there this young man comes up to wait in line behind me. I can see him out of the corner of my eye because of the way I am standing. I look around. The young man is on his phone. I see my neighbor in a different line and mouth a hello and send a small wave. I'm standing there in line for a while and can feel this man getting closer to me. I tried to put some distance between us by moving, twice! He moves too. I'm really wanting to take a step back and step on his toes or "bump" into him. He has no idea how close he was, totally consumed by his phone. The wait in line was long. Just not moving. My comfort level is uncomfortable. A man in the same line is cussing about everything. I'm hoping my girls don't hear him, and this punk behind me is practically in my back pocket! Growl. Still consumed with his phone, and insistent on being in MY SPACE!. I get to the check out person and wait until the order in front of me is done to not confuse the orders. The cussing man tells me to just put my stuff up there. I glared at him and sent him a look that said shut up, and he didn't say another word, just looked down. I couldn't get back by my cart because the punk with his phone was practically in my cart! I'd had enough and suddenly I heard the very irritated, yet calm voice of mine saying "Could I have some Space please?!" with an irritated look on my face. He looked startled and jumped about a foot back and stuttered "oh sorry." He had no idea who was around him or how close he was to me! Irritating!! Breath. Now I had the cart between me and him, and he was no longer consumed with his phone! I felt better. I pay for my things, and my daughter uses her gift card and we leave the store. Still a mad house. I was glad to be done and able to come back home. Don't think I'll shop on a Friday afternoon anytime soon again.
I still haven't finished my blanket, and didn't go to the baby shower on Friday:(
I went out with my sisters on Saturday night. We wanted a mommy night out! Had fun too! Then we did some shopping! More fun! I like to look around and see the people that are out and what they are doing. Again, aware of my surroundings. There were lots of people out and the restaurant was busy. There was a couple that was sitting near us and the guy was glued to his phone. Didn't even look at or talk to the woman who was sitting in front of him looking bored and flipping through the menu. We left before them and he was still on his phone and she was looking bored and ignored. How sad. There was an older couple out and they were having a lively conversation with each other. That was nice to see. There was a group of folks out that were very loud and laughing next to us. Nice. There was a group of women out together and I wondered if they were having a mommy night out too! Our waiter was great, and made sure our drinks were full and we were happy with our food. The music was getting louder and louder as we ate, and until we left. The food was great!
The Giants won the super bowl in case you hadn't heard. One of my sisters is a huge fan and I was happy for her that they won against the Patriots, again! Whoot whoot!! I didn't watch the game :(
So when you go out are you aware of your surroundings or are you the annoying one with your nose stuck in your phone?! Just wondering!
Have a great day all!

after Christmas confessions
I hope ya'll had a very Merry Christmas! We did.
Today started the after Christmas clean up and put everything away. Our tree is still up for a few more days. After having lots of places to go over the weekend we all just kinda crashed today. We took care of things and threw away all the trash. The boxes and boxes of packaging that everything seems to come in these days along with all the bloody twist ties and tape that are on toys. It's enough to drive any sane person over the top. Not to mention the kiddos.
We have so much food, no not food but junk food and chocolates in the house... makes my head spin. Yes I did make some of it, but we are always given more and we all need to detox afterwards. And need something healthy and yummy to eat for supper instead of filling up on party mix, cheese cake, chocolates, etc etc for the past few days. So we are going to have turkey pot pie. Mmmmmm. And watch a few movies today that we got as gifts.
So glad to be on school break. All of us need it.
One of the gifts for Little Matt didn't come. We told him ahead of time that it didn't come, and it should be here soon. He asked if I would wrap it up for him, and I said I would.
I was supposed to bring some of my homemade garlic dill pickles to my parents for Christmas. Forgot them. I was supposed to bring them the next day, told my sister to send me a text in the morning. She did. I still forgot them. All day I was scatter brained. Really bad.
We went to a coming home from boot camp party for one of Matthew's cousins. That was nice. Yummy food too! Not on Christmas, but a couple days before. Our weekend was full of parties and food!
Once the kiddos were in bed snoring loudly and sprawled out in their beds, My Man and I had a quiet evening on the couch.
Now I have to run because I need to get supper out of the oven before I burn it and we have to eat chocolate again for supper.
Have no fear I will be posting the yummy Chocolate Torte I made tomorrow!!
Have a great night all!

Christmas confessions
So are you all ready for Christmas?! Me? No. Why do you ask?
Gifts are not wrapped, some still have not arrived, and some still need to be bought. Talk about cutting it short.
I get asked on Thanksgiving if I'm done. Nope usually haven't even started yet. I like to click a button and have it shipped to my house!
At least the tree is up, and the lights work this year! Bonus! Last year half the lights died a few days before Christmas.
I would like to do some cooking.
I like to make chocolates with the kiddos. Then I like to give them away so I don't eat them all! Works out great for me! Just a heads up my SIL came over to make some with me, and I will be posting some pictures of the yummy looking treats!
I like to have cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Christmas morning. mmmmm all warm and gooey! With Florida Natural OJ! No pulp of course.
This year should be interesting with milking, our tree, church and needing to get out the door early...
Christmas with my family will be on Christmas Eve. I'm so excited about it too! We always have certain foods when we get together too. All the necessities of course. This year I'm making a ham, homegrown, crescent rolls, homemade, and drum roll please... Fudge Torte w/ White Chocolate Mousse! OOOhhh yummmmmmmmm! Have no fear my blogging friends I will post a picture and maybe the recipe. It's a lot of directions so I will have to wait and see.

monday confessions
I made a pot of coffee, or I thought I had, and was wondering why I wasn't hearing anything and smelling the coffee as it brewed. I took a look at the pot and realized I didn't put any water in it! I'm just glad I didn't break the glass. Hate it when that happens. Reminds me of my mom when I do that. She once said "it's hard to remember ALL the ingredients in a pot of coffee!" I would have to agree!
Every once in a while I put the jelly in the cupboard, and the peanut butter in the fridge...
Sometimes I don't eat lunch.
Sometimes when I go to town and don't eat lunch I buy a whoopie pie and devour it on my way home. All that shopping makes me hungry. There is a store near where I shop that carries the best whoopie pies for store bought, that is, and I just have a weak spot, eerrr maybe sweet tooth, for them! And sometimes it's nice to have a guilty pleasure on my way home!
I really don't like Mondays. It comes every week, and yet it always seems to be the worst day of the week for me.
Our kiddos like to hide on us and then jump out at us and scare us. I like to return the favor once in a while, just to keep them on their toes! Once in a while they really do jump me. When I jump them they giggle and say that I scared them! Love that!
Don't know if you've noticed but most all of my blog post titles are all lower case letters. Don't ask why, I don't have a reason, it just kinda happened that way.
Happy Monday all!

monday confessions
It's been a while since I had one of these so I thought I'd put one together! Here goes!
I too often wear my hair up in a messy ponytail, or clipped up in a hair clip.
Sometimes I let my bangs grow out so they are too long, then I cut them off and then when I'm out and about like miking the cow they are forever in my face, and I can't get them out of my face and I wonder why I cut them, and let them grow out again! I swear it's a vicious circle!!
I hate to dust. I like to have my kiddos help out lots with that chore!
There are days I am so busy I have no idea what it is I've done at the end of the day and it doesn't look like I've done anything, but I'm exhausted. Go figure.
I hate green peppers. The other color peppers are fine, but green, yuck, gag, gross!! I've never liked them. I used to sit beside my mother at supper time and if there were any green peppers I'd put them on her plate. I still will pick out any green peppers that I find laced in my food. I try to avoid ordering anything in restaurants that might have green peppers in them, the taste is just cooked into it and well, yuck.
I've always wanted to go to Texas.
I have days where they start out really good and things are going better then I expected, then there is a hiccup of some sort and that's it. The day is shot, and it just unravels from there.
Have a great Monday!! hahahaha

monday confessions
I'm tired of all this rain. Really. Seriously.
I managed to get the lawn mowed, most of it, I just have a small patch that needs to be finished, in between the rain this weekend. We have a push mower, and I like it, I walk and walk and walk! Great time to think and get some exercise.
Saturday morning before the rain Matthew took the kiddos fishing! They were all excited to go! They were gone all morning, and I managed to get some house work done before I mowed. Rachel was the only one that caught anything though. While it was pouring out I worked on one more project. I can't wait to show you how it's coming out too! It's a sweater pattern that I turned into a blanket!! And I've never followed a " written pattern" or done this pattern before either!! Shocking right!? I went to visit my grandmother the other day and she gave me the pattern. We had a huge thunder storm too. It was right on top of us and BANG, BOOM!!! Thankfully they made it back BEFORE the rain and more importantly the thunder storm! Yikes! Here are some pictures of the fishing!!
Boy they sure are cute! I'm partial though! I love country life, and they do as well! Shiner and Goose got their own fishing poles for their birthdays this year. It's what they wanted. So cool! And Bug said she wants her own fishing pole too. Yup that's what she's getting too! Little Matt already has one!
Recently I had to throw away about 5lbs of sugar. Well actually it's organic evaporated cane juice. Ouch. Yup had to toss it all in the trash. Why? Well I have glass containers on my counter of things I use very regularly, and it was an old jar that my mom gave me and the rubber ring had worn off, and well I went to close the top and it went CRASH! I found two large pieces of glass on the counter. I decided I didn't want to risk it and eat any glass shards, so out to the trash it went. Oh man! I still have glass containers of things on my counter, but now they are all in Ball Mason jars, the half gallon size, with a plastic food grade cover on it. So now it all matches!
Have a great Monday all, even if it's raining and it's Monday!! :-)

monday confessions
I love a good Hallmark movie! Don't you? No, my life is not a Hallmark movie. I just thought I'd share that!
I like Blake Sheldon's new song "Honey bee".
Yes I had a nice Mother's Day. And I hope all you moms did too.
So things are going well here on the farm. It's not real warm here. Still. Only had a few real warm days. I did take one of my projects (that I finished) outside, but it was short lived. I got stung by a hornet, and the wind picked up so I came back in. I decided that one sting a day was plenty.
The horses are taking forever to shed out. I can brush them, but it's just not coming off. Guess that means it's not warm enough. Currently they look like they have the mange! They don't, they just look like they do.
So far our indoor plants are doing well. The kiddos like to water them. I've noticed in the last few days that they have really shot right up, and getting a nice strong main stem.
The broilers are getting big too. On Thursday they will be 5 weeks old. Almost time for their harvest. I haven't seen that little one escape lately either. Not sure if it's too big now or just had enough adventure!
They are not cute. But they sure do taste good! They will jump out of the tractor when Little Matt feeds them. He'll grab them and put them back in. Thankfully they are so wide they just waddle along. Kinda make me think of myself when I was great with child! Hahahah! The waddling part that is! Maybe when they are all grown I'll post a picture of them from day one, to the last day! Then you can see how big they get in just 7.5 weeks.
They don't, they just look like they do.

monday confessions...
Welcome Monday! I can't believe I said that, but it was a good Monday! I think the weather had something to do with it! What an absolutely beautiful day it was too! The sun was out in full force with very few clouds and a light breeze! I decided not do the house work today, but to sit outside and enjoy the sun! It will still be there tomorrow (the house work) and it's supposed to rain. But I did get some laundry done and hung out on the line. I had to, I just couldn't let all that free, wonderful, solar power go to waste! I worked on a project while the kiddos played! Now that said, I did get some cooking done, and home school too . Let's see I made bread, cherry pie (Matthew was wanting one), peanut butter cookies, butter and supper! I have lots of pictures to show you!
After supper tonight we went out and Matthew got to work shearing Minty. She's our Finn sheep. (We have the hand clippers, not the electric ones, for now). A few years ago Matthew took a class on shearing sheep, with a friend from church. He was glad he took the course and has proved to make his job of shearing the sheep easier. The kiddos and I all stand around and watch him work, and take pictures of course! I have yet to try my hand at shearing... maybe someday I will... I will get a before and after picture up of both the sheep when they are done! And a picture of the wool! Looks real good this year too!
Let the picture show begin!
That was my day! A good one at that! Hope ya'll had a good day too!

monday confessions...actually it's our weekend!
What a whirlwind of a weekend we have had! It started on Friday actually. Hopefully my creative brain is working and my blogger block is gone... even if it's Monday! And a typical Monday it has been for me thus far! :-)
Friday, late morning my SIL came over and dropped her three girls off for the day. She had things to do and I was more then happy to watch the girls for the day. Little Matt was gone with Daddy for the afternoon. He really didn't want to stay home with 6 girls! So the girls were all happily playing outside. What a beautiful day it was too. Warm and sunny. Finally! It's been such a cold spring, compared to last spring! I had lots of baking to do for the weekend that was coming. Salads and desserts and bread to make for the Easter weekend. So in between checking on the kiddos and cooking I was busy. We were having an Easter with my family on Saturday and with Matthew's family on Sunday after church. I made an Oreo Cookie Cake, and hamburger buns for my family get together. We (meaning my family) tend to not always go with everyone elses' "traditional", and kinda go by what we want and enjoy doing. So we had a BBQ! Oh and yes I have a picture of the cake too! Oh it's a wonderful little, ahem OK so it's not little, but it is good cake! I stick it in right here! If anyone wants the recipe I'll post it later! Oh and yes it tastes like an Oreo Cookie!
Then I made the rolls. Well the first batch was a disaster! I could only think of two things I did wrong. I either killed the yeast with the temp of the hot milk, or I didn't put enough yeast in it, I mean with everything else going on that was the best I could come up with. I made a double batch. And at this point in the day it was getting late and we were heading to church for a Good Friday service. I still needed to get the kiddos bathed, they were a mess, and I still had my SIL kiddos. Matthew and Little Matt were still not home and it was almost time to milk, and I still needed to make more buns, and supper! So I threw out the first batch and made the second. My BIL came and got the kiddos, and dropped off some bunnies. He needed to get things ready at his house and wanted to keep it a secret from his kiddos. Well, long story short I got the kiddos bathed, the buns made, and supper, Matthew and I got the chores done and we were off to church a little later then we planned, but we made it there safe and sound! Phew!
Saturday proved to be just as busy! Chores, and getting everything ready to get to my parents. OK, so it wasn't really that busy just regular stuff to do and then we were on our way. Had a great day too! It was cold. It was about 40 degrees, but the wind was just raw. Mom had set out some eggs for a hunt, and we all bundled up (some of us wished we had a snow suit), went out and looked for eggs. It was SNOWING! What??!! Yup snowing. Great big fat snow flakes. It didn't last long, maybe 20 minutes. But crazy weather! When we got home I made a pasta salad for the meal on Sunday. I was going to make another dessert, but still had half of the Oreo Cake left and decided that was going to be good enough. It was late, I was cold, tired, and I really just didn't feel like cooking anymore. So I didn't!
Sunday we went to church, and had a wonderful service. Lunch was going to be at two, at my MIL, so that worked out well. We had to come home and check on the animals, and again, load up the car. We had a traditional meal of ham, carrots, rolls, and salads. Oh and the desserts. There are always tons of desserts at Matthew's family functions. They all have a sweet tooth! Four out of the 5 boys and families were there too, and that means 13 were kiddos! Ages 15-10months! Yea! (I think the oldest is 15, maybe 16). Oh and Matthew's grand mother was there too! We had another Easter egg hunt, for the younger kiddos, and so of course more sugar! But we had another great day!
When we got home around 5 to do chores, Maggie was way out in the field. She looked up and watched the car coming down the road, recognized it was us and ran down to the barn and was waiting there when we pulled in the driveway! Just like a dog happy to see her people! We all thought that was funny. Rachel was asleep in the car. Matthew had to go get some more hay so Little Matt, DaLaney and I started chores, while Emma, Rachel and Matthew went to go get it. It was nice to sit and milk Maggie and relax after a very busy weekend of running around. Listening to Maggie munch on her grain, the two older kiddos running around helping feed the smaller animals, and the light chatter of them coming in and out of the barn. It turned out to be an OK day, not real warm, but warmer then Saturday. Late in the day it warmed up even more. When Matthew and the girls got home and the hay put away, and finished feeding the animals we all started to play ball. Then we got out the kiddos BB guns and had target practice on the back lawn. It was so nice to just laugh, run and play with the kiddos. Just us coming back together as a family and enjoying ourselves after a long, busy weekend!!

monday confessions...
Ya I know it's not Monday, but I don't have time to blog tomorrow, I have too much to do, so it's now!!
What have I been up to now?
Besides all the endless laundry, I, well actually we have been spring cleaning our house!! It's more like a deep spring cleaning! What is deep spring cleaning? Well, for us it's been getting rid of stuff, and lots of it too! Like the closets! eeee scary stuff...I am amazed at how much stuff we have accumulated over the course of our marriage and the kiddos that we have been blessed with along the way. Some of the stuff is just that. I was once told by one of my sisters that if you don't love it, use it, like it, want it, why keep it, or something like that. Another good one is if you haven't used it, worn it in 6 months to a year, get rid of it! So we have made four piles of the stuff, keep, sell, toss, and we added a burn pile too! Actually I am not interested in selling anything I have so we give it to Good Will. Let me just rant here for a minute. I don't want to have a yard sale. That means I would have to save and store all the stuff I want to get rid of until the sale, then I need to drag my carcass somewhere where there is actually traffic on the road, advertise, unload it, set it up, price it, and hope it sells, and if it doesn't sell I need to pack it up and take it to Good Will, or throw it, just seems like a lot of work. I don't have the time... err rather the desire to do any of that. Now I know that some people have great success with them and I think that is great. I do from time to time stop at a yard sale and look to see if there is anything I want/need and I have found some good stuff before, also at Good Will, kinda hit or miss I think. But we live in a small space and with 6 people living here, I don't want to store it any longer. I could take it to my moms... just kidding Mom!! hahaha!!!! It feels wonderful to fall in bed at night and know that things are leaving and not coming back, and we are decluttering our lives in the process. I see all the bags, that are currently piled up in my living room, to leave and am just giddy! One stop and it's gone! And then on trash day even more will be gone! The trash men will just love us!! hahaha
Last year I hoed out my kitchen cabinets. I couldn't believe what I found pushed way in the back.Things I've never used, and some still in the package! I threw everything I didn't want. Not because it was broken but because I wasn't going to town the next day, and it was trash day the next day and that just made it so much easier. In a matter of a couple hours and then the next morning it was gone! All of it. I kept obviously the things I use all the time.
Another thing, what about the proverbial "junk drawer." I hate that term. What is the point of that anyways? Shouldn't the term junk be a clue? Why keep junk? Me? I'm not a fan of doing that. I have a drawer that I keep some of my kitchen tools in, like measuring cups, rolling pin, knives, bag clips, and the like. But I don't call it a junk drawer I use everything that is in the drawer, maybe not everyday, but it's used on a regular basis. It's not really organized, how can you organize some of that stuff anyways, and it won't fit anywhere else. If I don't use it I get rid of it, if it doesn't work for me I get rid of it. Kinda like the pineapple cutter I bought, can't get my pineapple cut with it, so I got rid of it. It was quicker to use a knife.
I think as Americans we have too much stuff. The baby section is overwhelming to go through at the store. All the new wonderful "must haves"! I mention that because I went to a baby shower on Saturday, and had to go into that section. Aaahhhhh!! All that stuff! I found some of the most basic things were what I wanted/needed for my babies. I didn't need all the latest must haves, some of them were nice, but a lot was just unnecessary stuff.
In case you haven't noticed I'm not the most sentimental gal in town. I do keep some stuff, but only if it really means something to me. Like the tea set cups my grandmother gave me. They were her mothers. Tea cups were my great grandmothers "thing" she liked to have. I have them saved, all wrapped up and will give them to my kiddos. I can't put them out, they would get broken at this point in my life! So I keep 'em safe. Then my kiddos can have something that was their great, great grandmothers! I think that is kinda cool. They never got to meet her, and I have limited memories of her, but I cherish them, and can share them with them. For the most part I don't keep much. It's more the memories and pictures that I have that I will keep. Besides, those can't be taken away from me. Yes I love to scrap book! It's the stories of our lives, and part of our children's heritage, that is why I do it!
Have a great day all!

monday confessions and a ranting...
OK, so here is to a very productive Monday!! Hey it CAN happen! I hope...
My baby fell asleep in my arms last night. She's got a cold and a mild fever, and she was just too tired to keep her blue eyes opened any longer. It was 5:45 when she drifted off to sleep. I sat and held her until I could no longer feel my arms. Then put her to bed, tucked her in, kissed her chubby cheek, and whispered I love you in her ear. She woke only once in the night and needed some caugh syrup, and she went right back to sleep. We put the humidafier in her room and that seemed to help.
We went to church yesterday and then to my parents. It was my Dad's birthday! The first day of spring no less! It was a nice day, not real warm, but nice. We had a BBQ. Love BBQ! I could live on them all summer long. Ya everyday I could have a BBQ! There are so many things you can do with them. Ya I'm the one that does the grilling. The Man is not interested in cooking, at all, not even on a grill. For Mother's Day 2 years ago he asked me what I wanted, and me being ever so suttle (not) told him, a BBQ grill. Haha! So that is what I got! I really enjoy it too, as do the kiddos. I'm a much better griller now that I have learned HOW to grill. We had some "burnt offerings" as we would jokingly referred to my very well done burgers, and anything else I would grill. The death of my first grill happened on a very windy day. It was on the porch and the wind took it off and smashed it on the ground. Killed it right there. I was glad that it didn't start a fire with the propane tank still hitched on it, yikes! Now I keep my new one on the other side of the house next to the shed. Not so windy there!
I hung out some towels this morning. I'm really pushing the gammet on this I know, but I can't wait to hang my clothes on the line all the time instead of running the dryer. I had to bring them in after a few hours because it started to the snow! Yuck! Snow. We're supposed to get 6-8 inches tonight. More yuck. It won't last though. We don't have snow here, and I'm not getting out the snow stuff again this year. My parents and sister have lots of snow left, and still have the kiddos ski pants out! I put mine away, along with the extra hats and mittens. They each have one hat and one pair of mittens.
Here comes my ranting...
I'm not a fan of hooligans joy riding around in their cars all hours of the night and rutting up the fields and scaring the animals. We have some from time to time. They need something more productive to do, you know like a job that requires them to WORK, so they can be tired at night to sleep, rather then destroy other peoples property. So disrespectful. Life doesn't owe them something just because they are here and breathing. Add/earn something to this life rather then thinking that you are owed something. A healthy does of resepect would do 'em good. Or a night in jail... Yes we have called the cops on them before too, the neighbors have too. About the time they go joy riding in the cow pasture they are going to be met with two very unfriendly farmers... No I'm not sympathetic to them or what happens to them. Time to be held accountable for their actions, if they are driving around, they are plenty old enough to have some sort of job. And for goodness sake would people please grow up and have some respect for others!!!!!!! You may not agree with me and thats OK. Feel free to have and voice your opinion, all I ask is you be respectful of me and others...
ON a lighter note...
I have some pictures of the St. Patrick Day's Delight to share. It's as good as it looks too! If there is any interest I'll post the recipe later, this is kind of a long post.
An update on my new girls. They are in that ugly stage. Loosing their buzzy butts and getting their feathers.
Oh and one last thing before I go be productive, yeah right! I'ts Monday!! No, just kidding, so far it hasn't been too bad...
Loving this new saperator! It works wonderfully!! Boiling time has decreased a tremendous amount! Such a relief to have 4 hours of boiling and not 3 days! Yup with the homemade one it would take days to do what we can now do in hours!! Not complaining though, we learned the whole science behind the making of maple syrup on that thing, along with the help of some wonderful people who also make maple syrup. We've come a long way, and we still have a ways to go, but we are so thankful for what we can do here on the property we are on! We feel truly blessed.

If there is any interest I'll post the recipe later, this is kind of a long post.

monday confessions...
Determined. That is one word I would use to describe myself. There are many others as well, but that is one thing that I am. I'm not one for giving up because something is hard, or I fall on my face, sometimes literally. If I need or want help I'll ask, and I'm not afraid to ask for it either. It doesn't make me feel any less capable, of whatever the task is, I know my limitations and I'm OK with that.
One example in my life is my willingness, drive, desire to buy a horse. I was in high school. I was in love with this one particular horse named Baby. She was an old ex Quarter horse race horse, a good one at that. She was a red roan with a red face and a white spot on her beautiful face. My best friend and I would go see her and her pen mate Sara everyday, sun, rain, snow, sleet, sub zero weather, and that is no joke. We were 2 horse crazy gals, still are, never out grew that. Anyways Baby had a little spit fire of a filly that I fell head over heels in love with. And while most of my other friends were getting their drivers licence, and deciding what boy to date, I was busy getting a job and closing my small bank account to buy this spit fire filly. I got a job, down the road from my parents house, washing dishes at a bakery. (my parents said I had to get a job and close my bank account to help buy her. They helped out a lot with the price of her.) Let me tell you, after I got out of school for the day, I would go wash dishes for hours, then come home to homework! Not nice plates, oh no these were the heavy, industry size mixing bowls, with dried on bread, cookie dough, and various other stuff. And then I had to learn to wait on customers. eeeee! Wasn't prepared for that part, but I did it. I would swallow that lump in my throat, smile and wait on the customer. I learned real quick who liked what, and could usually predict what they would want when they walked through the door. Like my Dad, he would pop in from time to time, passing through, and he would always get the giant soft molasses cookies, sometimes a doughnut if any where left over. It would thrill me when he would pop in and say hi and tease me about working, asking if the filly was worth it. She was. It was nice to know he was checking up on me. I would run the bakery on certain Saturdays by myself. That was a huge step in responsibility for me, I was 16. I only got my license when my mother got sick of driving me to the barn for riding lessons, that I would earn by cleaning stalls, and various other barn chores that I loved to do, and cleaning an old ladies house. Ya I really slept, ate, breathed, lived for horses. As did my best friend. We were joined at the hip practically. I miss her terribly. We still call each other and chat on a regular basis. We have the kind of relationship that doesn't come around very often, doesn't matter how long it's been since our last conversation we pick right up and talk like we just saw each other. I wish we lived closer, and could just "meet half way" and finish our walk together. That is what we did, I lived up town, and she down town, we would meet half way between our houses and walk even father down town to see our beloved horses, Baby and Sara. My best friend and I met when we were in second grade.
I eventually met and married the love of my life, and had a family, so at this point in my life horses have taken a back seat. I have a family that needs me and I need them. I still have that spit fire filly, and now her filly. I have plans and am determined enough to see them through. I will be back in the saddle, galloping through the fields again! Soon!

monday confessions...
It's been raining for 3 days!! UGH!! But I'm actually happy about it and I'll tell ya why
THE SNOW IS ALMOST GONE!!!! GONE!!! Kinda excited about that. I've been watching the well casing out back and it was almost covered. Now most of what is left is well, huge lakes of water, they are no longer considered puddles. In some places it's ankle deep. Very thankful for calf high rubber boots on a morning like this when I went out to do chores! We have gotten some freezing rain as well today and the trees have that beautiful look on the branches. We had the power flicker, and made sure the fire was going. Hope we don't loose the power, or we might loose some chicks. With the wind howling around out there, and the weight of the freezing rain, it could happen. We have some extra water for us, the animals, the toilet... just in case.
The chicks are doing well. They are getting into their ugly stage where they are loosing their baby fuzz and getting their feathers. Been a while since we've had chicks that are not broilers and what a difference in size and activity. They are busy little girls and already trying to roost! We lost one, but got 2 replacements today. Not a Top Hat, but I still want one.
I made the kiddos eat pears for breakfast while the man and I ate the leftover french toast!!
I don't know about others, but when my feet get cold, I get cranky. I'm seriously considering buying some BOGS next year, after all the rave reviews I heard about them. Winter boots as well as water proof. Extra bonus.
If I could describe my husband with just a few words, well it would be hard, but I'll share some of him with you, he's my best friend, quiet, gentle, strong, and loves his family. He wears wanglers and cowboy boots too!! Love that!

monday confessions...
Well, its been snowing most of the day and now has started to rain!! It's made a mess of the roads, but it's melting the snow! So I guess it's a good thing.
We all went into town this afternoon, right during the worst of the storm, but with the man driving, all went well. He made the car go into a slip, but came right out of it. Show off. The kiddos love to go shopping with me, and they all like to help put things into the cart. I have to keep an eye on them or who knows what they would put in there!!! Actually they are really good and can recognize what we get and can get them for me. That's real good. The man sits in the car and reads the mail, he hates to shop.
4:45 this morning we got a phone call. Who calls at the horrible hour anyways?! It was the post office saying that we had some chicks waiting for us, and would be arriving closer to us later that morning! Great! We had notified out postal person that we had some chicks coming, so they would be on the look out. After we hung up we snuggle down deeper in the covers and go back to sleep. Matthew asked me if I would do chores so he could go get the chicks and a few things he forgot at the mill, so of course I was all for it! I was still miking when he got home with them. We have pushed our milking back a little at a time due to the time change coming next month, and don't want to spring it on Maggie that morning and have her be sore or get mastitis.
My house if full of the sound of the happy peeping of the new girls! They are too cute!! We have enjoyed listening to them and watching them run all around the box.
A friend of ours ordered some bantam chicks, and the company threw in some extras to help keep them warm, and they were all dead. 27 of them! Those little buggers are not cheap either! We called the company and they said they would reimburse us or send more chicks, and our friend decided to try again. I felt so bad. I looked at the chicks and they would be real cute. They thought it was strange for them all to die, so did we. Poor things.
I made dough boys for supper last night. They were real good too! We had some left over and had them for breakfast this morning!
DaLaney helped me cook this afternoon, and then she did two large batches of dishes. She even wiped them too. She's such a good helper. She told me she was having fun too! I'm thankful for her help.
Today is my in laws anniversary, and we all are bringing supper to them and getting together.
I found a recipe for homemade brownies, and can't wait to make them. Yes I 'll take pictures and share the recipe with you, if I like them!! Hahaha
I also bought the stuff to make my own taco seasoning! Thanks FTCF for the recipe! Can't wait to try it now.
Gotta run to the party now!! Have a great night!!

monday confessions...
I had two kiddos mop the floors today, so after I swept they went to work! They have been bugging me to do it themselves, and today the floors really needed a good mopping, so I let them have at it!! I have one of those Swiffer wet mops. So never going back to the "other" kind of mop!! haha!! I like to throw the mess away and not have to clean up after cleaning! They had fun too, laughing and giggling the whole time. I have missed the happy noises they make, been kinda quiet around here with them not feeling well.
We were able to have school today too. I didn't push them too hard because they are still not 100%, but they were willing and happy to do it!! Yaay!!!
The man was off to help a friend and neighboring farmer to build a barn for his sheep. I believe it is post and beam! Lucky sheep! Check it out! Now I want one!!! Sure was a cold day to be outside in the wind putting up roof rafters!! Burrrr.....
He also went out to an Amish farm last week and talked with one that does the deep pack bedding for his cows. We are interested in deep pack bedding our herd, when we get one. At present we are unable. We have done business with the Amish before and have gotten to know them well. So when he had mentioned he does deep pack bedding with his dairy cows, Matthew expressed interest in seeing it, he invited him out to see it. The straw the Amish men is using is the straw we sold him last fall from our Spelt! The Amish man also wanted to sell him a couple of heifer calves. Oh are they cute, Holstein/Jersey cross. He declined, we want Jersey cows, but still...
I still have not done any of the winter knitting I wanted to do this winter. Kinda bummed about that. But it's not over yet... So maybe I still have time!! I saw my grandmother and she asked me if I had made any baby blankets and I said no, and some of my friends are expecting too. She laughed at me, and said I should get busy! Yea I know. I like to wait until the last minute! I also would like to try my hand at a hat and mittens! Hahah, that really is a stretch!
Oh you might get a laugh out of this. I made doughnuts Sunday morning, I never do that because we go to church and I don't have time, but due to the pox epidemic we have, we didn't go, so then this morning I offered them to the kiddos and they didn't want them! They didn't want them Sunday either! They wanted Raisin Bran cereal instead, and the I was told by some that "I don't like those doughnuts, I only like the other ones!!" OH MY WORD!!! Shocked I tell you and also thought it was funny! Guess I won't be making doughnuts anytime soon!! LOL. I made the cake kind of doughnut, and they now like the yeast kind of doughnut, from Pioneer Woman! Spoiled. But truth be told I think I like 'em better too! I think next time I do make 'em I'm gonna put some chocolate on them!! I have yet to find a chocolate doughnut recipe that I like. Still hunting for that... Oh well, the man still likes them. Anyone want some doughnuts??
