projects

SO in all my spare time I've been working on a baby blanket. It's almost done too. A friend is having a baby girl or boy, she didn't find out, so I'm just gonna make two, and then when it's born give her the right one! It's the same pattern as the last one I made. I think it looks like popcorn.

Well there it is. The color is called ocean. I just love it! So pretty.
SO what are any of you working on?

projects

So this is the new baby blanket I'm working on. It's for a friend who's having a girl. I love the color. It's Melon, and it really looks like the inside of a cantaloupe. I took this one to the beach with me and knitted while I was soaking up the sun!!

The pattern is easy. It looks like popcorn to me. I also have a boarder on the edges. I have done that on most all of the blankets. It keeps it from rolling. But some I've let roll, I like it depending on the pattern.
Well that's all. It's gonna be a hazy, hot and humid day here! Gotta keep all the critters water filled today for sure! Have a good one!

projects

Oh boy do I have some posts coming your way! I've been busy with lots of life!!!

Anyways, I'm excited about this

Why? It's a baby blanket. Nice dark sage green color.  The pattern is called Tile. ooooooooo

Obviously I've been working on it for a while, because it's big. Not quite done yet! But the reason I'm excited is because it's the first blanket I'm SELLING! whoo hoo  I was asked to make a baby blanket for someone, and I said yes. Gave them a price I would do it for and tada! They picked out the color and pattern, but I told them the ones that I could do. It's for a boy. Just kinda exciting for me. I don't know if it will lead to the sale of more but that would be fine too! Just had to share.
Have a great day all!

updates

OK, so I have a few updates on things I've been working on, and ya'll asked me to let you know how things turned out...so here it is.
Oh and yesterday I dropped my camera in the horse's water troth while I was washing it out, so I don't know how much longer it will work. That otta almost seal the deal to get a  new one. Not cool.

Not the greatest picture of the seedlings, but it was raining on them when I took this picture. They are adapting to the outside nicely. They are almost ready to sleep outside full time and are getting huge. I can't wait to get them in the garden. The other day I got to till the garden with the tractor. That was fun! Now both gardens are ready! We made them a little bigger this year too. And we'll be planting in the next week. Memorial weekend we always plant. The earth is warm enough now for everything, and shouldn't have any more frosts. Talk to any of the old timers around and that is what they all say, to plant Memorial weekend. So that is what we do. And have always had success!

My second batch of Komboucha! The kiddos and I love it! I have just put these in the cupboard to get a little fizzy and flavored. The one on the left has blueberries in it. You can see them floating around in there! The other one is just regular. I'm still not 100% of the taste. To get it just right, so I'm playing around with it. But so far I'm happy with how it's coming along. Something new to learn!

Here is the baby blanket I've been working on. It's almost done. A few more rows to finish it off and then tuck in all the loose strings that you can see hanging out! The pattern was new to me, but once I got it figured out and didn't want to poke out my eyes with the knitting needle it want quite well. ;-) The rows look like they area at an angle. Kinda cool!
So there you have it. 3 very different things going on at my house. Have a great day all!

projects

A friend of mine is having her first baby . A girl! So happy for the couple! So I am making her a baby blanket. I finally picked up the yarn and have picked out the pattern that I'm gonna use, and even done a small trial run on it. It's a new pattern I have never made, and I think I can do it, if I pay attention. I have until some time in August to get it done...But I know 3 women that are pregnant and due around the same time. Guess I better get busy!! I love to make baby blankets! Here is the yarn. I just love the color! It's Persimmons. Kinda orangy colored. When I actually get some done on it I'll show you!
Do any of you knit? I can't crochet to save my life. It's bad all the way around! I'd love to learn to make sweaters.  My grandmother makes beautiful ones, I should go spend the day with her and try it out. I'd love that! She knits too.
Any who...

Oh and FYI I have two new recipes, one I made with my SIL, you know the one I hang out with all the time! Maybe someday I'll tell you her name;) The other I did not. SO that will be coming next week. And it's a whole lot of yummy deliciousness! If yer into that sorta thing!  Just a tease!
Have a fantastic weekend all!

not related

I needed a break from my current project. Knitting a baby blanket for a friend. The baby shower is tomorrow, and I don't know if I'll get it done or not, due to my complete lack of planning. My eyes are bleary from knitting and I keep messing up the pattern. So annoying. So I figured I'd take a break and blog and read a few posts while I'm at it. Should be nice if I can keep it straight!

The pattern is called "tile". Simple enough. I like how it looks.

Yesterday was kinda cool. The weather was nice, but really moist. Then as the day went on and the temperature dropped the trees were covered with a frost of snow.

It was not a very sunny day as you can see by the gloominess of the pictures. The sun only came out from behind the the clouds when it was setting.

Today was a chocolate kinda day. I was tired and cranky, so I made some homemade chocolate brownies. That made me feel better.

Have a great evening.

knitting projects

Alright so my Saturday morning is shot because of the weather. It's raining, so I'm not able to mow the lawn or hang laundry out. Now I need to come up with a new plan, or wing it, like I do best! I like that better sounds like more fun, maybe not as productive, but more fun for sure!!
I'm working a a new baby blanket for a friend so I thought I'd share a picture of it. I really like the color, it's called lavender blue. It's the Simply Soft yarn too, as always. I like this pattern and how it works up. Again the pictures don't do the color justice.

Have a great weekend all!

projects

I made a baby blanket for a friend of mine expecting a girl. I never did get a picture of the finished blanket but I think it came out really well. I followed a pattern that I had never used before too!!! The colors were really nice and I used that Simply Soft yarn. I can't remember the color of it but it's multi colored!

I've just started a new baby blanket for another girl, but have maybe 7 rows done on it. And I'm following a pattern that I've used before but not sure if I've shared it before. So when I get more done on it I'll show you. I just need some time to sit down and actually knit! Haven't had a whole lot of extra time lately. I'm still not sure what "extra" time really is!! hahaha!! I'm still trying to get caught up on the blogs I follow!

projects...

OK, just a quick one here, I don't really like to blog on Sunday. But I had a free minute and I just had to share the baby blanket I'm making. It's working up sooooooo nice! I hope the pictures can do it justice, and you can see the pattern. The color is the dark sage simply soft yarn, love it. It's almost done too. This is the sweater pattern I got from my grandmother and turned into a baby blanket! There are three pictures, so hopefully you can see the pattern!

projects

So I have found the time to sit and knit! It's been raining here a lot lately, days on end it seems, and some days it's been nice and I have taken my projects outside with me. I got stung by a hornet one day when I was out knitting. That was the end of that! I like to make baby blankets for friends and family that are having babies. I have had people say they want one that is big enough for them to warp up in! I take that as a complement. I don't make a ton of them and I think I like to try new patterns. Once in a while I get stuck on a certain pattern that I really like and I make a few blankets in that pattern. Maybe someday I'll be real ambitious and try even more... don't hold your breath! When I pick out a color I don't always pick the traditional "baby" colors, sometimes I base it on who the mother is, or if one of the kiddos really likes a certain color I'll go with that. I have been busy knitting. My mom taught me how to knit, and from that I have learned more stitches. I like to call my grandmother who is a wonderful knitter and ask her questions about knitting too. I have lots of baby blankets from her for the kiddos and she makes them sweaters too. She informs me that I'm doing it wrong and how to fix it, I appreciate her help. I've even looked on you tube for more things. I have yet to make socks or sweaters, but maybe someday. My kiddos want me to make them a sweater out of our sheep wool. We shall see. If I do DaLaney will get the first one. But here are pictures of the blanket, and blanket to come.

this is a close up of the pattern, it's a basket weave. I kinda made up the patten myself in how I made it. I love this color too!
This is the new color I'm going to start on next. It's Dark Sage, I love the Simply Soft yarn! I  My  friend is having a boy, so I am going to make another baby blanket. All this rain I'm having plenty of time to knit!

the same blanket on my lap, just wanna snuggle a baby in it! this is not the whole thing, it's just to show you what it looks like!  Stupid computer wouldn't let me change the pictures around, I tried three times. That is why the green one is in the middle. The friend I gave this blanket to had a boy.

Christmas face????

Well, now that Christmas is over I'm glad. I love Christmas, but at the same time, it's tiring. I feel like I'm in a brain fog, and the past week is kinda a blurrrrr. I'm glad that we are on home school break. The kids are exhausted and have what my family refers to as "Christmas face". I wanted a nice family picture at my parents, but it didn't happen. Are you kidding me?? The kids are all in a daze and I don't know how it would have turned out! Funny thing I guess that is why people have their picture before Christmas, before all the... you fill in the blanks! My living room looks like Santa's work shop gifts everywhere, no furniture to sit on, and well basically a mess! Tomorrow it's time to get things back in order! The kids love all their new stuff, and have been enjoying them today, after church. I don't think they ate very much today, I think they are still full of all the "food" they ate yesterday. Emma and Rachel have the sniffles, and lets hope that it doesn't get any worse. I bought some more of the worlds best orange juice (it's Florida Natural No Pulp, if you were wondering) today and need to stock up on some vitamin c! Every once in a while I'll call my sister (OK, so almost everyday) and say hey, have you ever tried..... and she'll say no and I'll tell her to go get some next time she goes shopping, and then a few days later she'll call me back and say thank you very much for my new obsession. I giggle and say your welcome. But in all fairness she now returns the favor to me!! We enjoy increasing each others grocery budget! Matthew, myself and a brother in law went to Massachusetts last January to see Joel Salatin at a conference (totally worth EVERY penny we spent to go) and on the way back I wanted to stop at the Cracker Barrel, well it was late and I saw they had Florida Natural OJ on the menu. I ordered a glass and as I gulped some down I almost spit it out in my brother in laws face! It was all pulp! In case you haven't guessed I hate the pulp. Oh I was sooooo disappointed. Matthew tried it and he couldn't even drink it. It must have been most pulp. Sigh. Needless to say when I got home I had a big tall glass of it, no pulp and was a happy girl again! I usually always have oj in my fridge! I know that was kinda "ping" on my part, but that is where my brain is tonight.....
My grandmother gave me some nice yarn and some new knitting needles for a gift this year! I was pleased, now I can maybe try my hand at following a pattern, and have some yarn to do it with. Maybe. You know those winter projects I want to do? I'll carve out some time and make myself do it. I'll have to get some face time with my grandmother and have her show me. I think I might stress her out though! We'll see!
I was a little surprised when Matthew came flying in the house and said I needed to milk Maggie tonight, because he was going to help someone get out of the field, (yup some smuck drove their car into the field and got stuck. Big surprise!)  I got all the stuff together and went out, feeling rushed, and when I  sat down on the stool to milk, Maggie sensed I was tense, and she proceeded to step on my foot and flick her tail in my face. She turned her head back and looked at me with her big brown doe eyes and blinked. Then we both sighed. I needed to chill out and Maggie knew it. I guess that is why she stepped on my freezing foot and hit me in the face with her tail. I started milking and got into the rhythm of it and felt my body relax and the tension leave my body. By the time I was done milking I was enjoying the sounds I was hearing in the cold winter night. Matthew and some other neighbors got the person out of the field and all was well, again.
Well, I've put up some pictures and maybe your mouth will water, or not. Maybe you'll be thankful it's at my house instead of yours. Sometimes while I'm in the midst of all this cooking and baking I wonder why do I do this to myself? Lets call it tradition, and I love it!

My second attempt at fudge. It came out smooth and creamy the way fudge is supposed to be! Yay!

These are the donuts I usually make. More of a cake donut.  Love this recipe, they are so good! I got the recipe from my mother in law. Makes my mouth water just looking at them!

Some of the holiday treats. Cheesecake, pumpkin bread, fudge,  Reese squares, peanut butter balls, and needhams!

New donuts I tried for Christmas breakfast! Gasp! I broke a long time family  tradition of sticky buns and had yeast donuts, with a glaze instead!! They were a big hit!  I'd never made a yeast donut before and found out just how much they rise, all down the side of the bowl and onto the shelf in the fridge! They popped the cover right off the container! Oops, guess I better split the recipe before I put it in the fridge, or get a bigger bowl!! Oh well, chalk it up to a lesson learned, and a laugh!

winter projects...

Well I guess now that the snow is now here, probably to stay I have a little more time to do some other non-farm projects. No hay to get in before it rains, you know the typical farm things. I am working on a baby blanket for a friend of mine, who is having a girl, in case you couldn't tell from the wonderful color of the blanket. I don't think the camera did the color justice, it's called strawberry, by Simply Soft and I love it! The stitch is a seed stitch, what a pain, but I love the way the patten comes out. One of my sisters tells me I'm crazy to make another blanket in the seed stitch, but... what can I say I'm a glutton for punishment!! haha!! I think maybe I'll step outside my comfort zone of my limited ability of knitting and actually get and follow a pattern! (There is one that I want to try, and was going to for this blanket, but procrastinated, and didn't get it done). My grandmother would be proud to here that. She shutters every time I call with a knitting question, and she asks what pattern I'm using, and I say "Oh I'm just winging it!" I can see her shuddering now as I type that! So I think I'll try a pattern with some left over yarn, this winter and count the stitches and all!! Yeah! Maybe I'll keep you posted, if I actually do that. I  know of a few more friends that are expecting babies next year so maybe..... I should go and finish the blanket, the baby shower is on Saturday, and I have some knitting left to do to finish her gift!! But before you go check out the blanket!!
